Didier Guillon President and Artistic Director of the Valmont Group is an Artist, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and globe-trotter who has built a luxury group with art in its DNA. We sat down with Didier to discuss the opening of the flagship property that is planned to open on December 10th, 2021.
Why open a new La Maison Valmont?
While the world becomes increasingly digital, we wanted to create a physical space to maintain our deep bond with our customers. It’s a place to tell our story and convey our unique Valmont world to everyone who walks through our doors. We want our customers to feel the emotions emanating from our cosmetics and fragrances developed by my business partner Sophie Vann Guillon, C.E.O of Valmont Group, but also from our curated art pieces while offering a unique experience.
What made you choose The Carlyle Hotel in New York as your next destination?
New York was an obvious choice for the first La Maison Valmont in the United States. The Carlyle, being an emblematic New York hotel, is a match made in heaven for us. From its location in the Upper East Side, the history, the nearby art museums, galleries, and luxury retailers truly make it a perfect partnership.
Valmont will be exclusively included at the Carlyle spa, as well as a stand-alone boutique, much like Le Meurice in Paris on rue de Castiglione. We aim to create a natural flow between the spa and the boutique, an exclusive Valmont encounter!
How did you choose the art for La Maison Valmont?
I wanted to feature American artists, so I immediately thought of Sol Lewitt and Mark Tobey. I also chose the Shaundra sculpture from the wonderful Woodrow Nash whom I discovered in New Orleans. All these elements come together in unexpected ways to build the foundation of our storytelling to attract the key opinions leaders and editors.
