 Skincare treatments by order of use, to maximize skin benefits every step of the way

Skincare works in layers, with each product type serving a specific purpose. For instance, cleansers remove impurities, toners balance pH levels, serums and masks provide an added boost of active ingredients and face creams provide targeted corrective actions and promote a healthy skin barrier. When you apply your daily skin regimen formulas in the correct sequence, you facilitate product absorption and enhance ingredient interaction. Each product layer fulfills its intended role and contributes to the overall effectiveness of your skincare routine.  

 1. Makeup remover & cleanser

Removing your makeup (if you wear makeup of course) before cleansing is tantamount to undressing before you jump in the shower. If you skip this part, you can’t possibly get cleaned up and in any skin routine, cleansing is the single most important step you won’t want to miss. Why? Firstly, skin that is still wearing a day’s accumulation of grime will struggle to absorb the active ingredients of every other product in your regimen lineup. Secondly, it will be prone to irritation, imperfection, dryness and texture irregularities. What about exfoliating formulas? Where do they fit into my routine? 

Wonderful for removing dead skin cells, unclogging pores and smoothing the surface of your skin, the placement of an exfoliating treatment in your skincare routine depends on the type you use. It's important to note that over-exfoliation can lead to skin irritation and damage. Be sure to read and follow application instructions carefully and monitor your skin’s reaction.

Physical Exfoliants (containing particles or granules)

 For the best results use this type of exfoliant directly after cleansing to ensure that the skin is free of dirt, oil, and makeup. Apply it to damp skin and gently massage in circular motions. Rinse thoroughly with water and follow up with the rest of your skincare routine. 

Chemical Exfoliants

Formulated with ingredients such as AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids), BHAs (beta hydroxy acids) or PHAs (poly hydroxy acids) to dissolve dead skin cells and promote cellular turnover, chemical exfoliators are best applied after cleansing and toning before proceeding with the rest of your skincare routine.

How often should I use a mask and when? 

Face masks are a beneficial addition to your routine as they offer intense, targeted treatment for specific concerns. Rich in active ingredients most masks are designed to be used once or twice a week on previously cleansed skin and like the golden rule says, when you use an exfoliant always apply a mask afterwards and follow product instructions to a T!
